And thanks for that advise. We'll see what we can implement but I appreciate, I do, you offering it in good faith.

Oh and finally don't poach any of our members.
As stated, we don't. But, like Zichao, I do miss some guys like Dufrel or Clownboy or Justin or Lucas. I consider them internet "chums" or internet buddies, for lack of a better term. They know we exist so we got no reason to 'poach' them - Where they post and why is their own business. And, again, they're not 'clients'. So, even if they were to 'jump ship', as it were (and, again, there's nothing wrong with people like PMP or Fredfredson patronising the two sites), it's still wouldn't be 'poaching'.

But rest assure that we do not approach new members of P & CA that we don't actually know and tell them "come to TNT, we're so much better"...

Thanks, Dave for your advice. It is appreciated.

I hate thinking of a political bulletin board as a type of business. Maybe that is what it is, but I still hate it. I don't want to have to think about how to "sell" my product here. If I have a product that is worth "buying," I hope word of mouth will bring the "buyers" to me, rather than me having to recruit them actively.

Luckily, I am only a regular poster in good standing here at TNT, and consequently, don't have to think about selling anything to anyone.

I've got a bunch of them on my Facebook, but there are some I talk to more than others tbh. I'm actually kind of surprised by how much their internet selves and their real life selves are similar - there's only really me and LN that are a hell of a lot different. I guess that means we've got darker secrets to hide... *pokes frantically*

Another thing, don't ditch VBulletin. You have paid for it, even though you now have to pay the renewal to get the updates, you can continue to use this version. Besides you have also paid for VBSEO and if you migrate to phpbb or another platform, all your thread url's will change. Thus losing all your indexed pages in the search engines.

If you are going to do this you may as well start from scratch.

With regards point 8. One of you submit the site and do it today. I happen to edit that category.

Finally what is the real issue here, running costs ie hosting, software renewal or all of it combined?

I'd much rather have a cordial relationship with you all, than being seen as the enemy and from this point onwards, will ensure there is no gloating etc. As long as it is not to P & CA's detriment, perhaps I can help?

Just did it. I'm hanging around trying to put off doing any of the boring work that I'm supposed to be doing, so...

Very good advice! Converting the database itself to a different software would be a big headache, and not doing it at all would be a shame. We would lose everything that we stand for.

Having a friendly relationship sounds excellent to me. That is what I always hoped for and was striving for.

Every time I've glanced back at P&CA it has reminded me what a shithole it turned out to be. Every single thread goes through the same pattern - four or five, at most, vaguelly intelligent posts followed by page after page about who is/isn't a "liberal", who did/didn't support this or that position, ad infinitum ad nauseam.

I wish Zan posted more, and likewise Clownboy, and I could stand Dufrel and a few others - but the propspect of TNT becoming a home for every poster from P&Ca fills me with horror and despair. For all we have had fewer posters, the site has nevertheless been more interesting IMO.

Dave and I are not friends - mostly from Dave's POV as far as I can tell - but I would not shun his offer of a collegiate relationship. Lets just be clear that "poaching" P&CA's membership has never been a concern, from my perspective. Not that I have any particularly weighty opinion to offer in this regard or any other.

I'd like to see more traffic, and more varied views, here. But I certainly wouldnt wan't to see it duplicate what P&CA was. I'd hope for something better.l
