Default Hi Everyone!

I still live! (though saying so doesn't seem such a brave challenge to the ridiculously adverse universe, as when John Carter said it way back when....)

I do beg pardon to all my friends who may have felt personally rejected, or, concievably, a tad worried about me. I was just being moody, and indulging in something completely different, except really not becuase everything is equally silly, when you think about it.

Anyway, Ziacho completed her mission. Somebody should buy her a drink or something.

Welcome back, Benjamin! I am glad to know that you are OK. Taking a "leave of absence" (either paid or unpaid) may be quite healthy once in a while.

I actually tried very hard to buy Zichao a drink just last week, but didn't succeed, because first she insisted that it was her turn to buy me a drink, and then later on, she couldn't make it at all, because she had to engage that day in a more silly activity: a day of national service.

Anyway, glad to have you back.

Someday, you get good news like that... Welcome back, Ben.

If it is not prying, may I ask what other passtime you indulged in? This is not mere curiosity but I was wondering if it was a suitably geeky-pursuit I might be interested in learning more about...

If it was revamping muscle cars, I sure will like seeing the pictures of the finished product(s) but no details required.

Geeky, but not as testosterone-rich as muscle cars. Revamping used <ahem, vintage> stereo equipment.

Hmmm... I wouldn't mind getting one of these in semi-working order...

I remember these. When I was a young child, my parents still had one of those. It was replaced by something a bit more modern in 1960 when my parents renovated the living room.

I also remember the records that they played on it. They were made from slate, and if you ever dropped one to the floor, it broke. Also 1960, they stored all of these old records in the attic. There was a good-sized pile of those, around 20cm tall, with original recordings of Caruso. The label in the center was dark red.

30 years later, my parents realized that these old records were by now worth a fortune. So they wanted to sell them. At that time, they found out that their maid had thrown them all away long time ago without telling anybody to make space in the attic.

She probably wasn't the only maid thinking in this fashion, and this is why these records had become valuable.

Such it goes. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Thats whats geeks used to do before there was IT. Had a bit more social cred though, but I know a fair number of friends dads who had rooms or garages kitted out for HiFi.
