Hi, Justin. Francois, & Zichao.
It's going to take me some time to stop thinking 'Neko' when I see that other name that I can't spell without going to look it up. I see you got your law degree finally. Lovely to be done with that. What are you doing with your life these days?
Yes, I'm still killing people off vicariously on the page. No end of folks who annoy me enough to merit a grisly death. Finally I am getting healthy enough to take on a few minor professional obligations again, leading short seminars or penning the odd article on the craft and business of fiction-writing. Feels good to be getting some of my old life back.

Yup. I've attempted it a few times myself (one 'win'), writing swashbuckling Napoleonic adventure tales for my daughter when she was in uni. All through December finals, she would look forward to getting her Christmas installment of the 'Adventures of Amelie'. We've done smugglers, spies, and illicit romance; next up is assassination with a side of treasure hunt. You definitely get better Nano results if there's a plot semi-plotted in advance, although that does take some of the sport out of the exercise.
The novel I'm editing now is a relict of NaNo two winters ago, on its third? or fourth? revision. Being set in Canada, the tale naturally involves hockey. Also sex, drugs, lies, blackmail, burglary, vehicular homicide, and fine art. Unlike those written for domestic consumption, this one is intended for a market, if the publishing industry ever manages to pull its head out of its 19th-century business model.
