Doesn't sound just optimal. And we're no where near my position of 'there is a social duty not to predictably and seriously upset people, without good reason and fair warning.'

oh i'm just putting in my two pennies worth as a poster. so long as i'm not posting under the banner of 'Administrator' anything i say carries just as much or as little weight as anything anyone else says.
broadly though,
personally, i think - yes. we should be ourselves and people can make their own minds up about us. some of it will be controversial, and rightly so. if i were a new user i'd much rather stick around where there's some good cut n thrust to get my teeth stuck into than somewhere anodyne where nothing is going to spur me to contribute.
that said, if anyone came along who felt the symbol was being deliberately and repeatedly used specifically to demean or discriminate against jewish people, and they wanted to participate here, the picture would change. i hope they'd report it, and that either they or the mods might challenge LN to make a case for herself publicly. if they don't, they don't. perhaps the mods should ask LN to put a disclaimer in her sig.
i agree we don't want to upset people without good reason, but i think good debate *is* good reason - perhaps the best. and the AUP, i think, counts as fair warning.
