Default Why to Avoid Lew Rockwell

A short visit this morning reminded me that lewrockwell.com is a dangerous place. Basically, it's a disneyland staffed by evil conspiracist clowns, that will suck susceptable persons into an alternate 'up is down' reality.

Followed a link found when using Google to check the spelling of Lèse majesté, and then another, and got to this: Why Is Jonah Goldberg Still Considered Respectable? by C.J. Maloney

In it, one C.J. Maloney, apparently one of lewrockwell's 'big' clowns (excuse me, columnists), asserts that Jonah Goldberg's recent mainstream print column, Why is Assange still alive? - Chicago Tribune, was a call by Goldberg for the assassination of wikilinks founder Julian Assange. It isn't. It's just a column that draws certain sound conclusions from the fact that he has NOT been assassinated. Like, (my paraphrase) that the conspiracist view of the world is distorted to the point of schizophrenia.

Maloney says "...Mr. Goldberg has excused himself from polite society – he belongs in the Looney corner with the skinheads, Klansman, Black Nationalists, idiots in Che t-shirts, and all the others who are foaming at the mouth, mad and dangerous." At least, I think that's what he says. When someone is underwater in the fever swamps, it's a little hard to make out their words. The irony of this proscription is surely lost on no sane persons.

Goldberg's sanity must sting the Lewish camp like a splash of holy water. Hence this reactionary hack of the hatchet.

I haven't spent anytime on Lew Rockwell so you'll forgive me for my summary reply. Certainly the ad for "Why Iran want the Bomb. Listen to the reason nobody in the Pentagon and WH talks about and learn how to protect your family" didn't seem balanced...

OTOH, the article by C.J. Maloney isn't bad. Yes, he misunderstands much of the article written by Goldberg (and that's pretty poor when his article is supposed to be a reply to it) but it does have some valid point about the lack of restrains the US has been adopting post-9/11....

The fact that Maloney manages to make a few points that aren't total gibberish doesn't move him into the 'isn't bad' category in my opinion. The thing is, I'm sure he understands Goldberg just fine. He just doesn't let that get in the way of the big rant enabled by the 'misunderstanding.' Which is conspiracy-mongers all over. They are either insane, or they know they are posting nonsense, and just do it anyway, for the paycheck or whatever.

Hmmm.... I dunno. I've lost counts of the amount of times someone like PMP didn't get the rethoretical aspect of a question or whatever. As pointed out to me by whoever back then, the socratic method no longer work well in the USA...

Yeah, ok, I kinda agree with that - And with Goldberg's original point that intelligence agencies aren't really all that smart or all that evil...

OTOH, as Zichao pointed out, in the case of the sale of French Frigates to Taiwan in the 90s, there are quite a few suspicious deaths both on the Tawainese and French side...

I wouldn't draw huge generalizations from the PMP example...

Except, there are yesterday's election results. Oh shit.
