What I remember is him asking for more time. What I remember is Chirac arguing that US/UK resolve had forced Saddam to increase cooperation and thus that the inspections were working and needed more time.
As I said, I was convinced that Saddam could not have a nuclear program worth a war. The lack of findings by the inspections (which, despite the lack of cooperation/dodging on Saddam's side were still occuring) was just confirming my suspicions. Whatever he had, it had to be small/insignificant.
