As above, what use is it if you have to give up your goals? It's completely worthless.

Good! It's not meant to be a career.

Op-eds, intellectuals etc usually find something or someone to employ/finance them. Who would finance never-elected politicians?
Their members, of course.

Running the country part-time would not re-assure me...

Let's imagine you got to field one potential MP for every seat, as a base-line: That's 650 people. If you want any kind of qualified people, you'll have to pay them around £50k bare minimum. If my maths is correct, that's £32.5 million, just there.

How many people do you think must join a party and how high are the dues going to be to finance £32.5 million?

That's without bothering with local politicians into the borroughs and whatnot.

Well then we should abolish termss, get rid of parliament, and rely on the Lords and a dictator.

Oh please. MP's are paid by parliament, not by the party, in the first place; secondly you repeat the error that somehow you cxan buy political commitment. People charging £50k are by definition NOT qualified to be in politics at alkl, as having showm themselves to be simply careerists. And lastly, it's ridiculous to claim that the rest of use earning under that are not "qualified".

I really don;t understand why you perists in treating politics as if it were a business. It is not, it is a vocation, and however surprising you may find it people who take it seriously are not in it for the money.

That's totally true but people still need to live. £50k a year is pretty high on the income distribution but not so much on the 'professional' scale. And we've debated that before. If 'professional' (lawyers, accountants, managers) are not required to be a MP, then, yes, you can as well disband the Parliament because I don't see what it would do that is of any use...
