Blacks may dislike gays far more than the regular Dem. But most of them don't vote Rep on the basis of that. Their ideological dislike of gay doesn't get in the way of them voting for the party more likely to help them/least likely to actively seek to hurt them.

It doesn't have to because they can just vote on any referendum that is guaranteed to come about. They just vote No On 2, or w/e, and thats that.
And its not like Dems have truly championed the cause outside of a few states either.
Take the 2010 general election. The #1 reason the Dems got killed across the country was because all those Obama voters from 2008 didn't show up. And the reason they didn't show up was because they were Obama supporters, not Democrat supporters.
And so it comes back, IMO, to some conservative minded guy who really doesn't want government getting involved in his life too much, either for good or bad, and so he doesn't really care that Sen. Bob Bigot thinks Walmart shout be able to hang a sign in its windows reading "No Blacks Allowed" because Conservative Minded Black Guy also thinks that private business should be allowed to discriminate against whomever they like for whatever reason they like.
Its not the best situation to be in, but nobody said life was easy right? And it sure beats voting for lib'rulls.
