Frankly, that anti-KFC ain't bad. Put it another way, it might not be true 'wit' but 1- it's an ad, the medium is limited and 2- it beats most other ads...
Honestly, last I was in the USA, I got sick and tired of the number of TV ads arguing that whatever the product was, it was the best value/the best quality for that price in the universe.
As to your general point, yes, finding an ad campaign likeable for any particular reason doesn't mean you're going to buy their product.
