Headteacher Robert Campbell said the ban on shorts was imposed following consultation with students, teachers and parents in 2009. He said: ''Our uniform policy had a significant consultation and ours is typical of most schools in Cambridgeshire and the consensus was we were going to go for that. ''The issue creeps up during the summer months. ''Ultimately the boys can wear a skirt to school because it doesn't say they can't in the uniform policy and we would be discriminating against them if we did not allow it. ''Chris is a very bright and articulate student and we have got a very strong student council. He is one of only two year 8 pupils on it. ''I know he wants to go into politics and has got strong principles - so maybe Parliament is not the best place for him.''

Ah to be young again.... to believe that your wearing a skirt as a sign of protest is going to upset or impress anyone into letting you wear shorts again.

Funny timing though since last week I was mulling over the idea of wearing a skirt this summer. Just a plain, knee length, straight skirt. The big draw would be going commando while doing so. Its my new (possible) plan to avoid sweaty summer sac.

Basketball shorts just don't cut it, as the inseam causes the material to bunch up snugly around your crotch when you sit down negating the benefits of not wearing underwear on hot summer days.

Also, you can totally see my dickhead (especially with the white ones) and while I know there are a minority of girls out there who dig that... I just don't want to be That Guy.

You could go with a kilt - you can pass it off as punk if you add some chains and stuff.

You could also try a "Jilaba" which is what a lot of North Africans wear. Looks a lot like what Star Wars Jawas wear. Cool in summer and warm in winter.

I understand its a niche item here in the US. So I was expecting I might have to pay as much as $80-$100... but thats more than double... and I can't even try it on.
