People didn't have to reply with blind violence. It's basically the same thing as with the Danish cartoons. Yes, they shouldn't have been printed because they served no purpose but insulting people. But, once they were, the offended party should realise that, well, there'll always be assholes and burning swedish ambassies doesn't exactly help setting them apart from the assholes...

Otherly said, I am sure that the Arabs/Afghans can burn a few American flags or Bibles without too many westerners feeling like the appropriate response to the insult is to go and kill a few random Arabs or Pakistanese in the local suburbs...

Maybe the average Westerner doesn't feel as powerless and overpowered as the average Arab/Afghan does.

Plus, these weren't a few "random" people, they were UN workers, which is not surprisingly seen as complicit with the US.

None the less, this has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the scumbug who caused all this or the craven excuses being made for him.

Right. Which means you can't make a direct comparison to some guy in Ohio, who after a rigorous evening of masturbating to internet porn, turns on the TV and sees Muslims burning an effigy of Jesus wrapped in an American flag and then joins up with a mob to firebomb a Mosque.

The US hasn't been occupied the last 10 years, or endured as many years of "collateral damage" at the hands of a foreign power.

People seem to overlook that this violent response was limited to Afghanistan.

People seem to overlook that any American that wants revenge for 9-11 and whatever else has the "legitimate" option to join the armed forces. People in Afghanistan only have the "illegitimate" option of joining terrorists or mob riots.

Then people lean back in their chairs and call them a bunch of savages, which I guess is supposed to make us feel better about ourselves after having killed easily 20x as many of "them" as "they" have of us.

There are plenty of Afghans who thought things over and decided not to go out and have a riot, so clearly burning Corans doesn't have the devastating hypnotic power you attribute to it.

If these guys had a riot it's because they're grown up human beings who wanted a riot.
