I always suspected that too. Same for rape - I bet if we were all matter-of-fact about it and just bunged it in with assault (like in Australia, I believe) it'd be way less traumatic.
Kind of like if you force a Muslim to eat a bacon sandwich he'll be all traumatised, but if you force a Christian to do the same thing he'll just think you're a wierdo.
There's a wonderful story in Petronius about a bloke who gets the hots for his host's teenage son. One night when they're all lying there paralytic after a party he makes a vow to aphrodite that if he can get away with kissing the boy without him waking up he'll buy him some pigeons. He gets away with it, buys the pigeons, and the next night promises that if he can get away with having sex with the (passed out) kid he'll buy him a pony. He gets away with it and the next day goes to the market to look for a pony but fails to find one, so he shrugs it off, decides to do it later and goes home. He gets in and the boy rushes up to him: "Hey, where's my pony?"
