BMV study: Teens who take driver's ed crash more | WHAS11.com | Louisville news, Kentucky news & breaking news | WHAS11.com | News for Louisville, Kentucky
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana lawmakers say they're puzzled by a study that shows teens who take driver's education are more likely to crash than those who don't.
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles study of current drivers under 18 showed those with driver training had nearly four times the crashes that those without training had.
BMV public affairs director Sarah Meyer says the numbers might be skewed by the fact that teens with driver education training get their permits earlier and have more time on the road, and therefore more opportunity to crash.
Some lawmakers say it may be time for an overhaul. Indiana's driver education system hasn't changed in 30 years.
