Neighbours said they had lived in the village for at least 15 years. The incident is the latest in a string of similar cases in France. Earlier this year French mother Celine Lesage was jailed for 15 years after admitting to killing six of her newborn babies and hiding the bodies in her cellar. Mrs Lesage, 38, confessed to concealing the pregnancies, then giving birth alone before strangling two infants and suffocating four others. She told the court that she could not explain why she had killed the babies. Last June, Véronique Courjault, a “model” mother of two boys was found guilty of killing three of her newborns and putting two of them in her freezer. She was released in May for good behaviour after spending three years behind bars awaiting trial.
