Default Humana, U of L doctors don’t reach agreement affecting many patients, doctors

Both sides are being greedy bastards at risk of the patients. No one will critisize the docs tho, they aren't nurses aka females trying to get fair pay.

Humana, U of L doctors don?t reach agreement affecting many patients, doctors | WHAS11.com | Louisville news, Kentucky news & breaking news | WHAS11.com | News for Louisville, Kentucky

WHAS11) – With time running out for U of L doctors and Humana to negotiate a contract, the deadline it looks like will end without agreement.

Its been an on-going battle between the two, U of L doctors wanted more reimbursement money but Humana has said no.

Without a negotiated contract patients and 460 doctors that practice at dozens of hospitals across Louisville will be affected. This means these patients will either pay huge costs to stay with their doctors or have to go somewhere else.

Vicki Brackett is one of those patients who uses Humana and who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2008.

Brackett said she went numb when she was diagnosed with the cancer.

“It’s a diagnosis I didn't think I'd get. I don't have it in my family,” Brackett said. “I thought I'm going to the best treatment I can.”

Brackett had to seek a cancer specialist if she wanted to beat it and she went to James Graham Brown Cancer Center and was treated by a U of L doctor.

Brackett says the staff there saved her life.

Brackett is now cancer free but sees her doctor every six months for special tests to make sure the cancer doesn't come back.

But tomorrow her insurance will most likely not be accepted there anymore. Like other patients Brackett will have to chose pay for the visits on her own or travel to see another specialist that could be hours away.

Doctors say the main issue is they want a 10 percent reimbursement increase.

Humana this week offered to keep everything at the same rate but doctors said no. Humana says their offer is fair and above what other doctors in the area are getting. U of L doctors say they deserve more because a lot of them are highly trained specialists.

At this point Humana says there will be no more offers or changes on their side. U of L doctors say this means they are leaving the Humana network at mid-night.
