BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Tuition is going up at Western Kentucky University.

Resident undergraduates will pay 5 percent more for tuition at the university in Bowling Green. That means they will pay $3,780 for the 2010-11 school year, compared to $3,600 for 2009-10. Nonresident undergraduate tuition will increase 5.9 percent.

Ann Mead, vice president for Finance and Administration, said Friday that the revenue generated by the increase “is absolutely essential” to balance the university’s operating budget.

There's a reason that college tuition should be free?

There's a reason it shouldnt rise faster than inflation, there's a really good reason it shouldn't be raised 10% each year. College cost are like medical costs, quickly becoming unaffordable.

Undergraduate Course - per credit hour $456.30. That's $6,844 for one semester of classes at my school. If I hadn't joined the military I would have more student loans than I would make in income for 2 years.
