We just had 8 inches of snow, which is quite a lot for Dayton. Serpentine tracks of our not-so-large dog are visible in late afternoon light.

A beautiful day today. We did a short (2 hours) hike in the vicinity.

Here two views of the monastery of Einsiedeln from the surrounding hills:

Here a view on the still frozen lake and the mountain range behind:

We got still quite a bit of snow. The high was -4 degrees Centigrade (+22 degrees Fahrenheit) today:

Very nice.

Today it is sunny and quite warm 52 deg F or 11 deg C.

There isn't much snow left in the mountains either.

You might remember this view Francois

As you can see there isn't much snow.

Note this is a live link to the webcam so it might be dark depending on when you look at it.

I do, indeed. We live on such a beautiful planet. Let's hope we aren't goofing it up entirely.

The monastery of Einsiedeln lost 200 windows to a hail storm yesterday. Must have been the hail storm of the century. Swiss TV news reported about it all day.

We weren't there, but we were told today that the hail storm has knocked out the skylights in our apartment. However, the person who called us saw only the outside. We don't know yet whether the hail went through all layers. We'll go and check tomorrow. Hopefully the place hasn't been inundated! We might find a mess! It would be covered by the insurance, but I would still hate to have to deal with it.

We checked the apartment. We have two skylight windows, one over the kitchen and the other over the bathtub. Only the one over the bathtub was broken, and the inner shell had not been compromised. Only the outer shell has been destroyed. Consequently, we did not receive any water to our apartment. Everything is fine.

Of course, the window will need to be replaced, but this is fairly harmless and furthermore covered by our insurance.
