Chetna Patel, defending, said Barker, of Staines, Surrey, was a "rather lonely character" who had wanted to please her friend by being her ideal boyfriend. Releasing Barker on bail, Judge Moss said: "What concerns me is that it has got a very mean and manipulative streak to it. And it's very serious. The girls she preyed on are much younger than her. "By releasing you on bail, I'm not giving any indication of what the sentence will be."

Yeah, I mean if a 19yr with a 16yr isn't breaking the law, and two girls kissing isn't breaking the law, and lying about your gender to someone isn't breaking the law... how do you get assault out of that?

Is deception authorised in courtship? I think that, when it comes to marriage, Z had posted some interesting stuff about a woman getting a divorce (in the 19c) because her husband hadn't revealed he had done some jail time (iirc?).

Of course, more recently, you also got the Palestinian guy getting hammered for passing for Jewish in order to nail a Jewish girl...

Basically, it seems to me we're moving towards a "you can't lie and/or not disclose stuff to your conquests". It's disgusting and against the whole ethos of romantic seduction but we're going there...

I know that in French divorce cases you can justify it by saying that he lied to you/you made a mistake about something that was "fundamental to your life together" - so "I thought the Porsche was his" works in a divorce, even if he never actually claimed to own it. You couldn't use it to claim rape, though.
