Default Muslim boy and non-Muslim girl in secret romance die after falling canal

Not so much for the story itself, but for the writer's undisguised mixture of amusement and revulsion at the illiterate inanities posted on the victims' Facebook pages. It is pretty bad isn't it? No wonder we're being eaten alive by the Chinese.

Muslim boy and non-Muslim girl in secret romance die after falling canal - Telegraph

Quote:
Fayz, who had been drinking, was walking around the edge of Smethwick Lock on the Birmingham Mainline Canal when he lost his footing and plunged into the water.

Sara tried to pull Fayz - known to friends as 'Fizzul' - from the water but she slipped and fell in too.

A group of friends further down the canal footpath heard the commotion and dashed to the 20ft-deep-canal lock.

But they were unable to reach the couple whose bodies were submerged under water.

The friends then phoned emergency services who arrived on the scene within minutes.

Friends say the couple had been in a relationship for a ''few months'', but were forced to keep their forbidden romance a secret as Fayz was from a traditional Muslim family.

Sara, a non-Muslim, had recently posted on Fayz's Facebook wall: ''I love you babyz''.

Local residents said teenagers had gathered by the canal to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights Diwali with fireworks and were seen drinking.

A friend of Sara's said: ''They had been together for a few months but had been keeping it a secret because he is supposed to be with a Muslim girl.

''Apparently they had all been drinking and Fayz was walking around the edge of the lock when he slipped into the water.

''Sara, who has always been the brave one in the groups, tried to save him but fell into the water and we never saw her again.

''There were six others who were about 200 metres away and they came running over when they heard Sara scream.

''Then the fire brigade and the police came pretty soon afterwards.

''They dragged them out of the water and they started pumping their chests but they were lifeless they just did not move.

''It was a horrible sight, which will stay with me for a long time.

''It is so sad. Sara was an amazing girl she was always kind and always had a smile on her face.

''I can't believe she has gone but it makes sense that she died trying to save someone - that's just the kind of girl she was.''

Fayz was a student at Halesowen College and Sara went to nearby George Salter Academy, West Bromwich.

His uncle Nasir Uddin said: ''It is such a shock that he has gone. We loved him so much - it has not really sunk in yet.

''His life has ended so quickly, I can't believe I am never going to see him again.

''He was just an 18-year-old kid. I spoke to his dad who is obviously really cut up. The rest of his family are devastated.''

Facebook tributes were pouring in as devastated college friends described Sara as ''bubbly'' and ''brave'', hailing her ''strength and courage''.

Sarah Louise Handley wrote: ''Your death was so sudden. We are so proud of you for trying to save the one you love, It takes great strength and courage.

''Your so brave baby girl for riskin your own life. Well done baby girl.

''We all love and miss you so much. Your a great girl and wont be forgotten any time soon. Love you?.''

Simone Mahoney posted: ''R.I.P. Hun. You Will Be Remembered Forever. Such A Beautiful, Bubbly Person.

''We Were ALL Lucky To Have Known You. Now It's Heaven That's Lucky To Have You. Sleep Tight, Little Angel. xXxXx''

Sophie Bond, said: ''Couldnt of happened to a nicer girl. Can't believe you've gone the 26/10/11 will remain in everyones heart forevere RIP Sara Rylance ?''

Meanwhile, Katie Gailey wrote: ''So Sad Too See Such A Lovin Girl Go Like That. You were So Brave!! You Will Be Sadly Missed !?

Beth Chuckles Corbett posted: ''This girl has all my respect, bravery&love with a memorable smile thoughts with her family sleeptight sara x''
