Default Blockbuster busts

Once America's largest video rental chain, Blockbuster has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Founded in 1985 as Cooks Data Services, a provider to the oil industry, it has lived a more exciting story than many of the videos that it stocked.

Newsweek's The Street column gives a racy account of its rise and fall, the latter at least partly at the hands of the internet.
