Some of the research you linked in that Google search seem to support such a conclusion...

If you win millions, you acquire the necessity, every day, to manage staff and deal with complex legal, accounting, and financial matters. You may find yourself faced with business management responsibilities as well, depending on how you invest. If you have no education, experience, or talent along these lines, you get occasions to feel fustrated, stupid, and helpless, every day. And you will surely be skinned.

Add to that the liklihood of finding oneself either cut-off from friends and family, or of them turning into further sources of stress and trouble. Further, as you abandion your old lifestyle, your customary sources of satisfaction go away as well. Life is quite likely to become miserable for lottery winners, unless they plan an evolution of their lifestyle with intelligence and insight--which I suspect aren't strong points for most of them....

Similar problems arise for people who work hard 24/7 and never waste time or money on socializing, hobbies or vacations because they're saving for their early retirement. When they retire, they have nothing but the money to retire on. Intelligence or its lack is not the issue there; tunnel vision is. If you have a vision of how a millionaire is supposed to live, and can't adapt it when you find yourself a milionaire, you'll get into trouble.

There was a throwaway line in one of the reports from one of his friends, saying he always had "a bit of a drink problem". I think that's moe significant than the money. Give an alcoholic a few mill and you'll certainly shorten his life.
